New Deputy

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the Sky Vine for a clan meeting."

The thinning snow crunched under the cats' feet while they slowly crept out of their dens. They huddled closely at the base of the Sky Vine, hoping to get warm.

"Bridflight please step up. You have proved to be a great warrior in the clan, fighting not for yourself, but for the other clan members. You will become RainClan's new deputy. Congratulations."

Birdflight! Birdflight!

Stormcloud nodded, then signaled with tail that the meeting was over.

He entered his den, collapsing with a small thud on his bed of moss. He was shivering, his breath causing small wisps of mist to form in the air. Eventually he entered into a deep dream.

...

Stormcloud woke up in a large meadow, the sun shining brightly. "Weird...it's supposed to be leafbare."

A small dart of movement caught his attention. He pricked his ears, hoping to hear more sounds of disturbance. A familiar she-cat stepped out of the trees.

"Rainstar?!"

"Hush, young leader. I must take you somewhere."

"W-Where am I?"

Rainstar didn't reply. Instead, she disappeared back into the dark trees, calling out "Follow me if you wish."

Stormcloud stood there, his mouth agape. He shook his head "Just a dream" and he followed his former leader.

Stormcloud arrived at a dark land, no trees, grass, or even dirt. All dried up sand. The trees were either stumps or dead. The sky was a dark stormy gray. There were no animals, except of Rainstar and himself.

Rainstar walked across the bare terrain, and took him to a large clump of leafless trees. "Sh...be quiet. We don't want them to hear us."

"Them? Who's them?"

"Shh..."

Hidden

Dark woke up, feeling icy drops of rain land on her ruffled pelt. She glanced up at the sky, seeing large tree branches intercepting with leaves. The light blue sky peeking through the spaces between the branches is the only clue that it's daytime.

She stretched, her body aching with pain. Her pads stung with cuts and scratches from the rough gravel of the Twoleg roads. Dark glanced around herself, trying to scent her brother, Stormy. She followed the scent through the bushes and into a large meadow laden with blossoming flowers.

She caught a glimpse of her brother's muscular tabby pelt, and she raced towards him in happiness. But Stormy wasn't feeling the same way. He turned and glared at his sister, and charged at her, his teeth bared and his claws unsheathed. Dark stopped in confusion. Why my brother acting like this?

Stormy stopped right in front of Dark. He snarled, "You have to go now. You are old enough to travel by yourself. I have taught you for as long as I could. But you just don't understand anything. You're just making the progress slower. I WILL get my revenge on those clans. ALL OF THEM. And you aren't strong enough to do it."

Stormy raised his paw and slashed across his sister's muzzle, leaving it shredded and bloody.

Dark snarled at him. "Fine be that way! You want revenge on the clans? I will help the clans. I will join them and KILL YOU!" Dark spat in his eye, and ran back towards the woods, where rain clouds are gathering.

Stormcloud headed towards the medicine cat den with his patrol. He walked into the shady den, taking in the bitter, sweet scents of herbs. He spotted Fadingmist sorting out herbs and Spottedwing sitting in near the pool, neat piles of herbs placed before her. "Here are your traveling herbs. Everyone in the patrol will need to eat these before going."

Stormcloud nodded and called the patrol in. Slowly, they began to consume the bitter herbs. After they finished, they headed out into the clearing. Stormcloud yowled, "Attention all Rainclan cats! The patrol shall now be going to the other clans with me. Remember that you all must obey Darkflame during that time. Farewell."

Right as Stormcloud was about to head out the camp entrance, a small calico kit was hurtling herself at Stormcloud. Her eyes told him that she was scared, but her actions showed fierceness.

"WE MUST KILL MY BROTHER!" she yowled. "He plans to get rid of all the clans by gathering up rogues and kittypets! I don't know when, but he said just now."

Stormcloud stared at the kit in confusion. "Um...okay. Darkflame, talk to her in the leader's den. But take her to Spottedwing first. She's injured."

"BUT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!" she screeched.

"What's your name, little one?" Berylmist asked calmly.

"Dark...." she muttered.

"Welcome to Rainclan." Stormcloud meowed.

Dark's scared eyes turned happy for a while, but she hid it.

A New Leader

Stormcloud climbed up the Sky Vine, this time with confidence. He wasn't afraid of being Rainclan's new leader. I am prepared he told himself.

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the Sky Vine for a clan meeting!" he yowled.

The cats gathered around the tabby tom, staring up at him with gleaming eyes.

"I have decided to become the leader of Rainclan. Will anyone object to my decision?"

The cats fell silent. It seemed like the only noise breaking the silence was the wind howling in the air. A few cats shuffled their feet uncomfortably, but they remained silent.

"Thank you." Stormcloud bowed his head. "Meeting dismissed."

Twilightsky

"Let all cats gather here beneath the Sky Vine for a clan meeting!" Stormcloud's voice rang loudly throughout the camp. "We have a new warrior joining us today. His name is Twilightsky. He was a former kittypet. One of our patrols found him near the coast recently. He has decided to join Rainclan and leave behind his rogue life."

Shouts of protest erupted from the watching cats below.

"We can't trust him!"

"He'll try to climb his way up to become leader. He might even kill our next leader!"

"Silence!" Stormcloud yowled. "We will trust Twilightsky. Twilightsky, don't try anything foolish. We WILL ban you if you do."

Twilightsky nodded his jet-black head.

"Welcome Twilightsky into Rainclan as a full warrior."

Sagekit

Stormcloud was about to head off to train with his apprentice when a yowl echoed from the entrance of camp. He turned to see a small kit, with a white and gray colored pelt. Another kit?!

Stormcloud climbed the Sky Vine. "Attention all cats of Rainclan! We have yet another kit joining us today. His name is Sagekit. Welcome him to the clan."

SAGEKIT!

Stormcloud leaned down to whisper in Sagekit's ears. "Your foster mom will be Lizardstripe, ok?"

Sagekit didn't answer.

Intruder

The dawn patrol was about to leave. Ashstorm, Cloverpaw, Skybreeze, and Berylmist were heading out through the camp entrance when a yowl erupted from Marshfoot. "It's Crystalpaw from Sunclan!"

Cats turned to see Crystalpaw limping into the clearing, wounds adorning her pelt. Crystalpelt yowled, "My own clan turned me down and ordered me to join Rainclan!"

Stormcloud ran the the front of the crowd. "You are welcome to join us. Rainclan needs more warriors if it is to survive. Welcome to Rainclan."

Crystalpaw nodded and limped to the medicine cat den.

The dawn patrol had left for a while now, and as Cloverpaw padded through the dense underbrush, she heard a thump from near the river. She turned and spotted a small gray kit near the river. She hissed. "What are you doing in Rainclan territory?!"

Cloverpaw, Thunderpaw, and Blossomkit

Stormcloud padded out of his den. He climbed onto the Sky Vine slowly. I'm not even leader, I shouldn't be doing this! he thought.

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the Sky Vine for a clan meeting!"

The cats slowly appeared in the clearing.

"Cloverkit and Thunderkit have been patient enough to wait 6 moons. Now they will have the privilege to be apprentices. From now on, Cloverkit will be known as Cloverpaw and Thunderkit will be known as Thunderpaw."

CLOVERPAW! THUNDERPAW! CLOVERPAW! THUNDERPAW!

"Cloverpaw, your mentor will be Marshfoot, and Thunderpaw your mentor will be me."

The same day, Fadingmist was out in the forest gathering herbs. She walked towards a patch of comfrey, and bent down to bite the plants off. Just then, she heard a yowl behind her and turned to see a small ginger tabby kit running towards her with unsheathed claws.

Fadingmist glanced quickly around herself. What should I do? I can't hurt a kit. Right as the kit was about to make contact with Fadingmist's fur, she yowled.

The kit sheathed her claws back, and blinked at Fadingmist with large round blue eyes.

Fadingmist meowed softly, "Don't worry, little one. Are you from any clan?"

"What?"

"Oh no, another lost kit. I should take you back to camp."

Fadingmist grabbed the kit by the scruff and carried her back to Rainclan camp. She took her in to the medicine cat den to check if she has any injuries.

Rainstar's Death

The moon was high up in the sky when the wounded cats ran back to camp. Fadingmist was talking to Seakit when the smell of blood could be scented. She ran out to find wounded cats gathered in the clearing, and the rest of the clan surrounding them.

Everyone was meowing with questions.

"Where's Rainstar?"

"We have to inform Spottedwing about this."

"Did we win?"

Stormcloud yowled. "I'm afraid that our leader will not be returning back to Rainclan. She is now hunting within Starclan."

The cats gasped. Some started crying while others hung their head low in mourn for their dead leader.

Stormcloud continued. "We have retreatedfrom the battle for this great loss will affect our thoughts and actions. For now, no cat shall be the leader until moonhigh the following day. Not even me."

"Then where's the body of Rainstar?" Ashpaw meowed.

"Her body still might be in the territory of Sunclan. I have asked Icestar to return her to us soon. Spottedwing and Fadingmist will have lots of work these past few days. Cats who might have some knowledge of herbs, please visit my den so that you may help them."

(you can volunteer any cat of yours, but no kits, and don't volunteer all)

"Ashpaw and Cherrypaw, please step forward." Ashpaw and Cherrypaw padded to where Stormcloud was seated and plopped down.

"Ashpaw, even if you didn't fight in the battle against Fallenclan and Sunclan, you have protected Rainclan from any danger. You shall now have your warrior name. From now on, you will be known as Ashstorm." They touched noses and Stormcloud turned to face Cherrypaw.

"Cherrypaw, you have endured the horrors of battles, but you fought valiantly. Your warrior name will be Cherrybreeze."

CHERRYBREEZE! ASHSTORM! CHERRYBREEZE! ASHSTORM!

"That is all." Stormcloud meowed as he headed toward his den.

An Abandoned Kit

Berylmist, Poppypaw, Fallingswoop, and Ashpaw were at hunting patrol early one sun-high. Berylmist had wandered deep into the forest, following the scent of a rabbit. She eagerly opened her mouth to draw in the tasty scent of prey. The clan had been running low on prey ever since the first snow fell.

Berylmist padded on further until she reached a clearing. It was the Rainbow Pool, frozen all over. She took a glance and spotted a small tuft of fur poking out of the bushes. She sniffed. Rabbit.

She crept a little closer until she was a tail-length away from the creature. She leaped, her claws extended out. Her body whipped through the bush and she felt flesh beneath her claws. And she heard a cry.

Berylmist looked down. And there was a small tabby kit crouched underneath her body. Berylmist immediately started licking the wounds she caused on the kit.

"What clan are you from?" she meowed.

"W-What's a clan?" the kit whimpered.

Berylmist grabbed the kit by the scruff. "I'd better get you to Spottedwing." She carried the small kit all the way back to camp.

Rainstar climbed onto the Sky Vine and yowled, "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the Sky Vine for a clan meeting."

Cats began pouring into the grassy clearing.

"Skypaw and Fadingpaw have trained hard as apprentices to reach their goal of becoming a medicine cat and warrior. Skypaw and Fadingpaw please step forward."

Skypaw and Fadingpaw stepped forward with shiny pelts and glossy eyes.

Rainstar continued, "I, Rainstar, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on these two apprentices. They have trained hard to understand the ways of the warrior code, and I commend them to a warrior and medicine cat in their turn. Fadingpaw and Skypaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your clan, even at the cost of your life?"

"I do." the two cats chorused.

"Then by the powers of Starclan I give you your full warrior and medicine cat name. Skypaw and Fadingpaw, from this moment you will be known as Skybreeze and Fadingmist. Starclan honors both of your's courage, honor, strength, and determination. We welcome as a full warrior and medicine cat of Rainclan."

Fadingmist and Skybreeze stepped forward to touch their muzzle against Rainstar's

FADINGMIST! SKYBREEZE! FADINGMIST! SKYBREEZE!

Rainstar bounded onto the Sky Vine in one leap. "Cats are joining frequently, which will help us get some advantage during the battle with Sunclan and Fallenclan."

Cats started nodding, agreeing with Rainstar.

Rainstar grinned. "We have two new apprentices joining us today. Oakpaw and Poppypaw."

A fiery orange tom and tortoiseshell she-cat stepped forward on the Sky Vine.

Rainstar continued, "Shatterstream and Birdflight, even if you two have joined recently, you've proven to me that you can uphold the warrior code and die for this clan. Therefore, Shatterstream, your apprentice will be Oakpaw. Birdflight, your apprentice is Poppypaw."

The apprentices touched noses with their mentors.

"Meeting dismissed."

Rainstar swiftly darted around the snow clumps up the Sky Vine. Her eyes were gleaming with happiness and determination. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the Sky Vine for a clan meeting!" Her voice rang within the camp, stirring the sleeping cats. They eventually stiffly got up and arrived in the misty clearing, looking up at Rainstar.

Rainstar blinked and continued, "This is a proud day for our clan. By appointing apprentices to their mentor, we show Rainclan will survive and remain strong. This is Cherrypaw. Fallingswoop and I have been watching this interesting kittypet for a while."

Gasps erupted from the clan when they heard the word, "kittypet".

Rainstar silenced the muttering cats with a flick of her tail. "She will perform a simple task to prove herself one more time. If she succeeds, she will join Rainclan as a permanent member. If she fails...she will have to return to her soft kittypet life."

Rainstar turned her head towards the entrance of the camp. And there, a small black and white she-cat stood, her pelt shining in the early mist.

Rainstar yowled, "Cherrypaw, your task will be to spy on Fallenclan AND Sunclan to see if they are expecting a battle from us and preparing for it."

The cats gasped and some protested...

"She's too young!"

"What if she betrays us and lies?!"

"It's too dangerous!"

Rainstar yowled once again. She leaned in close to Cherrypaw's ear and whispered, "If you want to prove yourself of being a great warrior, you have to succeed in this mini quest."

Cherrypaw looked back up with bright green eyes. She announced to the clan, "I take on this quest, and I WILL succeed."

Rainstar sat back down with a proud smile on her face. Some cats started meowing with joy, while others stood back, silent.

Rainstar stood back up. "Cherrypaw, it is time for you to go to the other clans' territories. Meeting dismissed."

The cats scattered about, some forming groups discussing information about Cherrypaw.

Cherrypaw ran out the entrance to the clan, heading towards Fallenclan territory.

Rainstar happily leaped onto the Sky Vine, three unidentified cats following her. She yowled, her voice echoing around the clearing, "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the Sky Vine for a clan meeting!"

Since most of the cats were already gathered in the vast meadow, Rainstar began quickly.

"We have three new warriors joining Rainclan! This is be a vast improvement upon making preparations for the battle! Let us welcome Shatterstream, Birdflight, and Fallingswoop!!!"

SHATTERSTREAM!!! BIRDFLIGHT!!! FALLINGSWOOP!!!

Rainstar leaped high onto the Sky Vine, her head down. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the Sky Vine for a clan meeting!"

The cats slowly appeared into the sunlit meadow.

Rainstar continued, "Mistpaw has been spotted dead, near the border of Fallenclan. There are no clues as to who murdered Mistpaw. We will send some cats to investigate later on. Otherwise, we'll mourn for her."

Rainstar lifted up her head. "But a new apprentice has joined Rainclan! Ashpaw, your mentor will be Stormcloud."

The two cats touched each other's muzzles.

"Meeting dismissed!"

Δттαcκ

Rainstar leaped swiftly onto the Sky Vine, her eyes glaring menacingly at her own clan. "SUNCLAN AND FALLENCLAN SCENT WERE FOUND IN OUR TERRITORY!"

(she made it up)

The cats below yowled in frustration and anger. Rainstar grinned evily. I will soon rule over all the clans...

Rainstar continued, "We will attack when we're ready...after at least a moon of battle training and new members!"

The cats smiled and began whispering excitedly to each other...

Beware Fallenclan and Sunclan... Rainstar whispered to herself.

(I have no idea why she wants to attack Fallenclan and Sunclan...)

A small black and white kit stumbled into camp, barely walking. Rainstar immediately rushed over to the kit. Who is she?

Rainstar grabbed the kit by its scruff and carried into the medicine cat den, where she'll learn that the mysterious black and white kit is called Thunderkit...

(I didn't know what else to put so yea...)

Rainstar climbed swiftly onto the Sky Vine. She yowled, "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the Sky Vine for a clan gathering."

The clan slowly emerged from their dens, blinking in the bright sunlight.

Rainstar meowed, "We have a new medicine cat, Spottedwing, joining us today."

Just then, a small light brown she-cat stepped into the clearing. She leaped high onto the Sky Vine and sat next to Spottedwing.

Rainstar stared at Spottedwing confusingly. Spottedwing motioned with her tail to wait.

Spottedwing stepped forward. "Cats of Rainclan, as you know I will not be around forever. So it's time I took an apprentice. I have chosen a cat for her determination, kindness, and concentration. Your next medicine cat will be Fadingpaw."

Rainstar smiled and meowed, "Fadingpaw, do you accept the post of apprentice to Spottedwing?"

Fadingpaw grinned, "Yes, Rainstar."

Spottedwing continued, "Then at the half-moon you must travel to Mothermouth, to be accepted by StarClan before the other medicine cats.

Rainstar nodded. "The good wishes of all Rainclan will go with you."

Spottedwing and Fadingpaw stepped warily towards each other and touched noses.
